Gym is always fun at Mcdowell, but today it was especially nice. The eighth grade here at McDowell got the chance to play softball and had a really good time. It was a lovely day outside and the kids had lots of fun. Unfortunately, the seventh graders are stuck inside until next year. Too bad!

Valentine’s Day is today. When I was younger I loved Valentine’s Day, the candy, the cards, and those cheap little Valentine’s Day toys. Valentine’s Day was my favorite holiday! Even though Valentine’s day is not my favorite holiday anymore, I still enjoy the holiday. So this post will contain the history of Valentine’s Day and a fun little Valentine’s Day craft! Enjoy reading!
Here is a little history about Valentine’s Day. This is one of many versions about how Valentine’s Day came to be. St. Valentine was a priest who served during third century Rome. During this time, there was an Emperor who ruled Rome named Claudius II. Emperor Claudius II thought that single men made better soldiers than those that were married and banned marriage for all young men serving in his army. Supposedly, Valentine, decided this law wasn’t fair and decided to marry young couples secretly. When Emperor Claudius II found out about Valentine’s actions he had him imprisoned, and later put to death. Some stories say that the couples, who Valentine had married, gave flowers and letters to Valentine when they visited him in the prison. Again this is just one of the many different versions of the history of Valentine’s Day.
Now that you know a little history about Valentine’s Day, how about we learn a little Valentine’s Day craft. This is how to make a Crepe Paper Rose Bouquet.
So go to the movies or stay at home, eat all that amazing chocolate, make all those hand made cards to send out to your friends, and maybe if your lucky you’ll get a huge stuffed animal! What would your perfect Valentine’s Day be like? Comment your thoughts down below! Like I said before enjoy your Valentine’s day! Thank you for reading!
Here are some facts that will lighten up your day, i’m sure.
1. A baby octopus is about the size of a flea when it is born.
Yes, I never knew that baby octopuses are the size of fleas. That’s really short for an animal that is usually known for being a size of a Man.
2. A baby spider is called a spiderling.
I don’t know what’s up with these baby animals. Anyway, I guess baby spiders are so cute that they have to have that name. But, I have to disagree. A evil-bug looking creature that has lots of eyes and 8 legs does not sound cute. But who knows.
3. The person who invented the Frisbee was cremated and made into frisbees after he died!
This fact might not be, so I say, “fun”, but it is interesting. It does make some sense, if you look at it directly. I mean, if I was the creator of plates lets say, and wouldn’t be an honor to be what you were known for? Actually, that would be weird a bit, but whatever.
4. Cherophobia is the fear of fun.
There is a lot of weird and unusual phobias out there, and this one is clearly one of the weirdest. You could never live life to the fullest if you had this phobia. They’ll be that one person who doesn’t join in on conversations or never goes anyplace because they’re scared.
5. When hippos are upset, their sweat turns red.
This fact, our final one, is some sort of a magic act. Hippos, can actually turn their sweat red when upset. They can also put on a ”Sunscreen”, which is indeed, sweat, to block out the sun’s rays.
Thanks for reading my 5 facts to lighten up your day. Be sure to check back on McDowell Media for new post every day.
