Student Council

McDowell Student Council is a huge impact on our school. Student Council has fifteen members in all. Students voted on 7th and 8th grade electives, seventh grade was elected towards the beginning of this year and eighth grade was voted back in May. Being in Student Council requires many responsibilities. The students elected are in charge of morning announcements. They are to explain what is for lunch, sports tryouts information or upcoming dates.

Student Council held a spirit week during the high school homecoming week. We did Pajama day, Character day, Wacky Wednesday, Farmer day and Spirit day. Spirit week was very successful and more than half of the students participated. Student Council was in charge of taking group photos of all the students wearing spirit week attire.

Student council is recently holding a food drive for veterans in Pickaway County. There is competition between the 7th and 8th graders. In the Cafeteria there are two boxes. One for the 7th grade as well for the 8th grade. McDowell students are to bring in canned items for the food drive and put them in their box. The food drive will end November 11th on Veterans Day. The grade that wins is rewarded during a free period.

We are only a little bit into the school year, but Student Council will be holding many fun events in the future. I am excited to see what is yet to come this year. Student Council makes the school a better place and engages the school with many fun activities.
