Paraskevidekatriaphobia or also known as Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the phobia of Friday the thirteenth. Roughly eight percent of America’s population experiences this phobia. Some people won’t even leave their beds. Paraskevidekatriaphobia has many symptoms. The symptoms vary from sweating and paranoia to rapid or irregular heartbeat.
Friggatriskaidekaphobia or Paraskevidekatriaphobia originated from Christian theology. It is a mixture of two words Triskaidekaphobia and Frigga (which is the word that friday comes from). The name Frigga is the goddess of love in Norse mythology. Paraskevidekatriaphobia is the more popular name for the phobia. The common belief is that terrible events in the Bible, like Jesus’ crucifixion, Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, and the Flood supposedly happened on Fridays. That is why some people are scared of Friday’s. The fear of the number thirteen (Triskaidekaphobia) came to be, because there were 13 people eating at the last supper. The people that were there were Jesus and his Twelve Apostles. The reason it is feared is Judas (the Disciple that betrayed Jesus) is theorised as the thirteenth Apostle. To make it worse on a Friday the thirteenth in 1306, King Philip the third of France burned all of the knights of templar to mark this day as evil.
Sailors never shipped any cargo on a Friday, because of the Flood’s theoretical occurrence on a Friday. Once British Navy officials had the idea to try and abolish this fear. The Navy selected the crew on a Friday, Found the captain on a Friday (the funny this was his name was James Friday), The boat they were being shipped on was called the H.M.S Friday, and They released them on a Friday. The Navy officials thought they would come back fine, but what they got was they completely vanished.
