The Giver

The Giver is a great book about a community with complete sameness. Each citizen is assigned a spouse, two children a boy and a girl, and a job. Each child is put into their age group for their school classes and volunteer work, until you become a twelve. When you become a twelve everyone is divided into their jobs for training based on the way you spent your volunteer hours. Jonas, the main character is not assigned a job during the ceremony of twelve. In his his year, Jonas ends up being selected. Jonas is selected to be the keeper of the memories. The keeper of the memories collects all of the memories, good and bad and keeps them away from all of the other citizens. One day Jonas comes up with a plan to release all of the memories so everyone could feel them. So Jonas goes outside of the community to try and find elsewhere. With limited food and trying to keep an infant baby named Gabriel safe, will Jonas be able to make it elsewhere and keep them both alive? The Giver is a very enjoyable book full of feeling and  adventure, and is definitely worth reading.
