The History of Valentines Day

Valentine’s Day, this is when you share hugs, kisses, cards, chocolates, flowers and big teddy bears. Most of all this is the time for romantic moments and love. All ages celebrate this day, from teens to middle agers to elderlies. But what is the history of this day?why did it happen? when did it happen? The Roman leader Claudius II was battling in many wars, he needed a tough army. But men did want to be in war, so Claudius thought men wanted to stay home and spend time with their spouses rather than fight for their empire. So Claudius came up with a horrible way to problem solve.

He banned all Marriages, Not one man in Rome could marry or be married. He thought if there was no women in their lives, they wouldn’t pay attention to them and fight in war.

A priest named Saint Valentine did not agree with Claudius’s ways, he believed that the couples would disobey their gods living together without being married. So he took action, he married couples it places where no one would know.

But the people did uncover this shenanigan, he was arrested. The emperor told him stop this or he would be punished, but Valentine denied it . He was taken to Jail and eventually murdered on February 14 or 24 in year 269 or 270. Before he was murdered he wrote to his friends and family to pray for him.
